Abstract An atlas designed to facilitate detailed investigation of 24 LMC stellar clusters with the new 4 rn-class telescopes has been prepared from measures of over 6200 stars to V > 21.5 mag on CTIO 4 m telescope plates. The atlas consists of tables of iris photometer readings from visual and blue plates, of instrumental color-magnitude arrays as a function of radial distance from the cluster center, and of identification charts. Twenty-three of the clusters are listed as being globular in the Revised New General Catalog, of which 18 had been classified in the classical surveys of Hodge as being similar to galactic globular clusters. However, very few of the clusters show features in their color-magnitude diagrams reminiscent of galactic globular clusters. Among the possible explanations discussed for this apparent lack of galactic globular cluster-like signatures in the measured sample is that the LMC may have even fewer old (t 1010 yr) globular clusters than previously thought, and that the clusters identified previously as red globulars may consist in large part of clusters only moderately old like NGC 2477 and 7789, M67, or NGC 188 in the Galaxy.
