- W2087169173 abstract "The use of nowadays technology in all levels of education is growing. Such is multi-faceted at institutions of higher learning, which includes, among many: the use of smart classrooms, PowerPoint presentations, electronic saving of course materials and the use of the e-mail system in communication with students. The following is based on 4 years of experience in utilizing e-mail and in a variety of courses at the College for Women, Kuwait University. The course instructor establishes an e-mail account for each course being taught, with an easy-to-remember password, to have constant communication with its students. The main purpose of this e-mail account is for the instructor to disseminate all relevant information, announcements and document files containing handouts. Students are informed of this e-mail and its main purpose as they begin the semester and are clearly advised not to use this e-mail for communicating with the course instructor. For a student who wishes to communicate with the course instructor, the advice is to use the student's personal e-mail account. This is by design, so that the course e-mail account would not be cluttered with many messages and directions by students -- however students are permitted only to forward any of the messages in the inbox compartment to their respective e-mail accounts. Even though, the course instructor advises students to check the course e-mail periodically, they are also alerted when messages of significant information are e-mailed. Advantages of using e-mail in this manner include: 1- flexibility in time of opening the e-mail for any time access, 2- messages remain permanent for future and frequent accessing, 3- students receive information while being away from the classroom, 4- students read messages and be aware of important announcements, 5-handouts and course materials contained in attachments to messages can be printed as appropriate, 6- instructors are spared the copying of course materials and handouts, with economic benefits, 7- communicating by e-mail with the course instructor about any sent information or materials and at any time, 8- enhancement of use of nowadays technology. Students' feedback on the use of the e-mail system was very positive. Therefore, the e-mail system can be a valuable tool in keeping a satisfactory level of communication among students and with their course instructors - for the overall benefit of education." @default.
