- W2087538169 abstract "Abstract A highly sterically hindered extractant, bis(2,6-dimethyl-4-heptyl) phosphoric acid, (C 9 H 19 O) 2 PO(OH), HD(DIBM)P, has been shown to differentiate strongly in favor of U(VI) with respect to M (III) actinides, lanthanides, scandium and yttrium and with respect to Th(IV). In the systems HD(DIBM)P (diluent) vs. 1·0 F (NaCl+HCl), where the diluent is benzene or n -heptane, the extractions may be represented, operationally, by: K = K 8 F 2 /[ H + ] 2 , for UO 2 2+ , i.e (U)VI K = K 8 F 2·5 /[ H + ] 3 , for Sc(III) K = K 8 F 2·5 /[ H + ] 3·5 , for Th(IV) where F is the concentration of formality units of HD(DIBM)P in the organic phase and [H + ] is the concentration of H + in the aqueous phase. From 0·025 M HCl into 0·60 F HD(DIBM)P in benzene measured K values are: U(VI), 2×10 4 ; Th(IV), 3; Sc(III), 6×10 2 ; Eu(III), Lu(III), Y(III) and Am(III), each less than 2×10 −2 . The mutual separation of U(IV) has been demonstrated. For each of the elements studied, under comparable conditions, the K value is higher in n -heptane than in benzene." @default.
