El tiempo quirúrgico medio fue de 32 min. Las complicaciones fueron: 2 seromas (1,6%), 3 hematomasufusión subcutánea (2,5%). No se produjeron infecciones de la herida, rechazos de las prótesis ni recidivas. La hernioplastia con plug de polipropileno según la técnica de Lichtenstein ofrece unos resultados excelentes con índices de morbimortalidad muy bajos y con tasas de recidivas menores a las técnicas herniorráficas clásicas, por lo que se convierte en la técnica de elección en defectos del anillo crural. The present “gold standard” for the repair of femoral hernias is hernioplasty using the Lichtenstein plug. We review 120 cases of elective outpatient femoral hernia repair performed at the Elche Hospital between June 1992 and May 1998. A Lichtenstein polypropylene plug was employed in every case. The mean follow-up was 68 months. The average patient age was 50.3 years; 85 patients (70.8%) were women and 35 (29.2%) were men. Local anesthesia with sedation was used in 90% of cases. There were no deaths. The mean duration of the procedure was 32 minutes. The complications included seroma (n = 2, 1.6%) and subcutaneous hematoma (n = 3, 2.5%). There were no cases of wound infection, rejection of the prosthesis or recurrence. Hernioplasty using a polypropylene plug according to the Lichtenstein procedure is associated with an excellent outcome with regard to morbidity and mortality, with recurrence rates well below those associated with conventional techniques for hernia repair. Thus, the use of polypropylene prosthetic plugs for femoral ring hernioplasty has become commonplace and the standard of care." @default.
