- W2088476790 abstract "A coked condition density separation technique has been developed that gives catalyst activity and contaminant metal profiles for the inventory of equilibrium catalyst used to crack heavy feedstocks. This separation technique was shown to be a valuable tool for evaluating the effectiveness of reduced crude cracking catalysts. Isobutene coking of a regenerated and prereduced sample allowed separation of the coked condition catalyst particles into fractions using tetrachloroethane-tetrabromoethane mixtures according to the skeletal density of the coked particles. Isobutene coke deposition was found to be proportional to acidity and was related to microactivity test (MAT) relative activity. Nickel content of the separated fractions was used to establish the separation efficiency and average age for each fraction. This information was then used to determine the rates of contaminant metal accumulation, zeolite dealumination, surface area and MAT activity losses. Vanadia accelerated deactivation of the catalyst. Zeolite destruction and dealumination were shown to result in activity loss as observed by microactivity testing. Variation in deactivation rates was observed for different catalyst systems by following the effect of aging on zeolite exchange capacity." @default.
