- W2088897255 abstract "To evaluate the benefit of use of 3D extended imaging (3D XI) analysis of ultrasound (US) examination of uterine myomas before surgery. Eighty seven patients diagnosed with myomas and elected for surgery (29 for myomectomy and 58 for hysterectomy) were recruited for the study. Each patient had 2D US by an experienced operator and the number, size, site and relation to cavity of myomas were reported and blinded. 3D US including multi-planar and coronal plane assessment were done by another operator. The stored 3D volumes were then digitally analyzed using 3D XI; including multi-slice, oblique and volume CT views. The results of 2D, 3D and 3D XI were then compared to the operative and post-operative pathology findings. 2D US had lower sensitivity and specificity than 3D US and 3D XI in assessment of the number and size of myomas although the differences were not statistically significant. On the other hand, 3D XI was significantly more sensitive than 2D and 3D US in evaluation of the site of myomas and their relation to cavity. Specificity of 3D XI was similar to that of 3D US and both techniques were better than 2D US. The ability of detailed analysis of the volumes taken during 3D US using 3D XI would aid in the localization of myomas and defining their relations to the uterine cavity. This information is invaluable in cases selected for surgical removal of myomas especially in the decision for choice of the endoscopic (laparoscopy/hysteroscopy) approach.
