- W2089352590 abstract "A late Pan-African suite of peralkaline granites (650-550 Ma) marks the youngest phase of magmatism in the Arabian Shield prior to the eruption of Tertiary volcanics which heralded the opening of the Red Sea at 30 Ma. The granites are enriched in alkalis, and HFS elements (Nb, Ta, Zr, Hf, Y, HREE), similar to the geochemistry of within-plate anorogenic granites in general. Many of the peralkaline granites are components of igneous complexes, some of which have a distinct ring structure. Two types of igneous complex have been identified. The first type is exemplified by the Jabel Aja complex which contains peralkaline, metaluminous and peraluminous components, all of which have a trace element geochemistry indicative of a within-plate source region similar to the Younger Granites of Nigeria. The second type is exemplified by the Jabel Sayid complex where the non-peralkaline component has a geochemistry typical of volcanic arc magmatism indicative of a source region in the mantle wedge overlying a subduction zone, whereas the peralkaline component is within-plate in character. Such complexes have not been recorded elsewhere and suggest formation in a changing tectonic environment in which first hydrated, and subsequently non-hydrated, mantle source regions were available to the same igneous complex." @default.
