- W2090020005 abstract "Abstract The synthesis of acid phosphatase-1 [MacIntyre, R. J. (1966a). The genetics of an acid phosphatase in Drosophila melanogaster and Drosophila simulans. Genetics 53, 461–474] in the developing ovary in Drosophila melanogaster was studied biochemically, immunologically, and histochemically at the ultrastructural level. The impetus for this study was the observation that acid phosphatase-1 exhibits a maternal effect in early embryogenesis. Assays which measure the amount of cross-reacting material (CRM) against antibodies made to acid phosphatase-1 strongly suggest that this enzyme is synthesized de novo in the ovary, for, during a specified time, the rate of increase in CRM parallels the rate of increase in enzyme activity. Using the lead phosphate method of Gomori to localize acid phosphatase-1 histochemically, it was determined that both nurse cells and follicle cells contribute the enzyme to the developing oocyte; nurse cells apparently transport the enzyme in large aggregates containing lysosomes through ring canals to the oocyte. Small pinocytotic vesicles containing acid phosphatase-1 form in the oocyte at the follicle cell/oocyte interface during the time of vitelline membrane formation." @default.
