- W2090980905 abstract "The method with ε and n does not enable us to indicate small dipoles with certainty, because we do not know the atomic polarization and because the value of the electronic polarisation we use belongs to the NaD line and not to the wavelength with which we measure the total polarisation. The introducing of arbitrary values for the atomic polarisation as is applied by some investigators, is senseless and deserves disapproval on account of the confusion it may create. The same holds for the extrapolation of the refractive index to infinite wavelength; we are then only brought further from our purpose, the AP and the Δ in form. 8 partly compensating each other. Working in dilute solutions (< 2%) the density of the solution need not be determined, which means an important economy of substance. With the calculations much time can be saved, by making use of the form. 10, 11, and 12, obtained by developing the usualy applied formulas. According to the method described in this essay a liquid condensator can be constructed with such an economy of material, as to make it possible to carry out exact dipolemeasurements with some mg. of substance. Measurements of temperaturecoefficients, which theoretically enable us to ascertain small dipoles with positiveness, prove to be of little use in practice, the accuracy of measurement not being great enough yet; this also explains why for no substance exact values for the atomic polarisation are as yet known. I am greatly indebted to Prof. Zwikker for his interest and for the hospitality which I might so largely enjoy in his laboratory, also to Mr. Morel for his electrotechnical assistance and to the staff of the working-department, especially to Mr. Tielkemeyer and Mr. van den Akker." @default.
