- W2091074611 abstract "Both researcher and corporate practitioners have long been interested in the role and efficacy of job search. For example, one noted economists has suggested that both the prospective employee and the potential employer obtain a positive return from increased search. (1, pp. 94-96) For the job-seeker, the returns occur principally in the form of a higher starting salary. For the employer, wage costs and skilled search are substitutes, i.e., employers who invest heavily in search will be able to attract workers of a given quality for a lower wage rate than firms which search less. Interest in learning more about the nature of job search as well as ways of increasing its efficacy is especially strong in the labor market for professional, technical and managerial manpower. The labor market for the high-talent, college-trained manpower so avidly sought by business corporations has long been characterized by a serious imbalance between supply and demand. It has also been typified by a rapid escalation in starting salaries and a turnover rate which is considered to be excessive by most companies. Consequently, employers and universities training high-talent manpower have been searching for ways to increase the effectiveness of the college recruiting procedure and to alleviate the transitional difficulties experienced by many graduates when they move from the academic program to a corporate environment." @default.
