- W2091216636 abstract "The geological history in southern Senegal and Guinea results in the existence, on the western margin of the West African craton, of a Pan-African orogenic belt which is capped in part with late Proterozoic and Paleozoic terranes. In addition to geological features, the gravity signature and deduced crustal model bear evidence of an eastern crustal block corresponding to the old rigid craton and a denser and thicker western block related to the reactivated basement province. The discontinuity in density between both is interpreted as the Pan-African suture which dips westward beneath the reactivated block. The short wavelength gravity highs superimposed to the gravity gradient in the central domain are interpreted as west-dipping wedge-shaped dense bodies squeezed at depth along the suture. These may reflect either remains of oceanic crust or granulite facies rocks derived from the crustal overthrusting process. Finally using both geological and geophysical materials, the Pan-African belt of southern Mauritanides and northern Rokelides appears to be consistent with a continental collision-basement reactivation model. L'évolution géologique du Sud Sénégal et de la Guiné est marquéem par l'existence d'une chaîne orogénique à la marge occidentale du craton ouest-africain. Cette chaîne est recouverte en discordance par des terrains du Protérozoïque supérieur et du Paléozoïque. En plus de la géologie, les données gravimétriques et le modèle crustal qui en découle permettent d'établir la présence d'un bloc crustal oriental correspondant au craton rigide ancien et un bloc occidental plus épais et plus dense correspondant à un domaine de socle remobilisé. La rupture de densité entre les deux blocs est interprétée comme une suture pan-africaine plongeant vers l'ouest sous le bloc remobilisé. Les hauteurs gravimétriques à courte longueur d'onde superposées au gradient de gravité dans le domaine central sont interprétées comme des corps lourds en forme de coin plongeant à l'ouest, coincés en profondeur le long de la suture. Ces corps peuvent correpondre soit à des restes de croûte océanique, soit à des granulites issues du processus de charriage crustal. Finalement, sur la base des données gélogiques et géophysiques, la chaîne pan-africaine des Mauritanides du Sud et des Rockélides du Nord apparaît en accord avec un modèle de collision continentale comportant une réactivation du socle." @default.
