- W2091259428 abstract "The results of posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction are not as yet as consistently successful as are those of anterior cruciate ligament reconstructions. The reasons for inconsistent results are many, but one important aspect leading to less than optimal results is the failure to diagnosis and treat associated ligament injuries. Isolated tears of the posterior cruciate ligament are uncommon and can usually be managed nonoperatively. When significant instability exists there is often other ligamentous laxity present either to the medial or lateral structures of the knee. An isolated posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction in the common situation of multiple ligament instability is at a high risk for failure. The recognition and concomitant treatment of associated laxities in conjunction with an intraarticlular posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction will reduce the stresses upon the intrarticular graft and enhance the chances for a successful surgical result." @default.
