- W2091289180 abstract "Fluorine atoms react with methane at low collison energies (∼1 kcal/mole) according to the chemical-laser reaction F+CH4→HF+CH3. At somewhat higher energies (1–1.5 eV) the reaction F+CH4→FCH3+H is possible. The fluorine–methane system was treated as a three-particle system consisting of a fluorine atom, a hydrogen atom, and a methyl radical. A three-parameter, LEPS (London, Eyring, Polanyi, Sato) potential-energy surface was adopted for the interaction potential. By adjusting these parameters so as to force certain properties of the surface to agree with experiment, an optimized LEPS surface was obtained from which cross sections were generated for the reaction channel F+CH4→HF+CH3. These cross sections were used to calculate a thermal rate constant that agrees approximately with experiment." @default.
