Because the absence of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) does not preclude the diagnosis of fulminant type B hepatitis, the serum IgM antibody to hepatitis B core antigen (anti-HBc) has been advocated as a useful diagnostic variable. We report the cases of two patients with fulminant hepatitis B, with strongly positive antibody to the hepatitis B surface antigen (anti-HBs) at or near the time of admission, in whom the IgM anti-HBc proved to be...References1.
