- W2092226452 abstract "Abstract The reaction of absorbed chlorine on a Pt(100) surface with hydrogen from the gas phase is studied in an UHV system using line-of-sight mass spectrometry, LEED and AES. Adsorption of chlorine removes the reconstruction of the initially clean Pt(100) hex surface. During the reaction with hydrogen the reconstruction back to the hex substrate takes place or not, depending on the temperature. The reaction is investigated on the uniform (1 × 1) substrate as well as with simultaneously occurring surface reconstruction or on a frozen in (1 × 1)-hex domain structure without progressing reconstruction. The kinetics observed under the various conditions are interpreted on the basis of LEED observations and of the adsorption properties of the reactants. The qualitative considerations are substantiated by a kinetic reaction model." @default.
