The effects of the nucleotides are not additive and the response to a mixture cannot be readily deduced from the effects due to each in isolation. 3. The response to the adenylate energy charge ratio is independent of the total concentration of adenine nucleotides at pH 7.0, but at higher pHs the shape of the response curve is changed, and the activity at any given energy charge value increases with decreasing adenine nucleotide pool size. 4. If such effects operate in vivo, it is suggested that increases in gluconeogenic flux are associated with an increased rate of substrate cycling at the level of phosphofructokinase and fructose 1,6-diphosphatase." @default.
