- W2092840544 abstract "Heavy-atom-free triplet photosensitizers based on C60-boron dipyrromethene (BODIPY) dyads have been prepared. The BODIPY moiety is the visible-light-harvesting antenna and C60 is the intramolecular energy acceptor and spin convertor. In their Full Paper on page 264 ff., Jianzhang Zhao and co-workers show that these dyads absorb strongly at visible wavelengths and the intersystem crossing is fully predictable. The dyads were used as triplet photosensitizers for triplet-triplet annihilation (TTA) upconversion, in which blue emission was observed after excitation with green light. TTA upconversion will open a new avenue to improve the efficiency of solar cells. Chiral Olefin Ligands Alkenes are common features in ligands that are used for asymmetric catalysis. However, dienes that have chiral carbon chains, as well as heteroatom/olefin hybrid ligands have recently been identified as promising ligands for enantioselective transformations in their own right. The synthesis and applications of these emerging classes of ligands for asymmetric synthesis are discussed in depth by Haifeng Du and co-workers in their Focus review on page 204 ff.1 Total Synthesis Conhydrine is a piperidine alkaloid from the hemlock family that is isolated from the seeds and leaves of the poisonous plant Conium maculatum L. (+)-α-Conhydrine is a potent glycosidase inhibitor and has antiviral as well as antitumor properties. In their Full Paper on page 232 ff., Won-Hun Ham and co-workers report a short and straightforward synthetic route to (+)-α-conhydrine and its pyrrolidine analogue. This method involves a highly diastereoseclective chelation-controlled hydride reduction of an amino ketone as the key step in introducing the stereogenic center into the molecule, and an intramolecular ring-closing metathesis.1" @default.
