- W2092862722 abstract "A model is developed which relates the ice-surface topography above subglacial lakes to the length l of bed transition regions bordering the lake where the effect of the presence of the lake causes a reduction in basal shear stress. The model is applied to four representative regions of an ice sheet. In general, if l is less than about a kilometer a slight to moderate depression is created in the ice. If l is several kilometers either a flat area or a flat area with accentuated ice-surface gradients both upstream and downstream from the flat area is created. An examination of basal physics leads to the prediction that, normally, l should be sufficiently large that the ice surface is not expected to develop a depression unless the region is close to an ice divide." @default.
