- W2093009172 abstract "The functional aspects of the developing relationships between the somaesthetic thalamus, the cerebral cortex and the peripheral nerves were studied in rats and rabbits by different recording methods (monopolar and transcortical bipolar). (1) Identical data were obtained in rabbits and rats. (2) Relationships between the thalamus and the cerebral cortex were observed at birth (rabbit) or soon after it (rat). Waxing and waning phenomena appeared 4–7 days later. (3) The relationships between peripheral nerves and the thalamus developed in such a way that the ventro-basal complex was activated first and the ‘shell nuclei’ (n. lateralis, reticularis, PO group) 3–4 days later. (4) Simultaneous records from the thalamus and the cerebral cortex showed that the potentials evoked by stimulating any peripheral nerve were followed by after-discharges in the neonate. They decreased in intensity as the thalamic nuclei were more and more easily activated from the periphery. (5) The fact that electrical stimulation of the ventro-basal complex elicited a potential of the augmenting type at a moment when stimulation of peripheral nerves elicited potentials that were still negative at the surface of the cortex remains a problem. This is discussed in the light of our present knowledge of the development of the thalamus and the cortex. Les aspects fonctionnels du développement des relations entre le thalamus somesthésique. le cortex cérebral et les nerfs périphériques sont étudiés chez le rat et chez le lapin au moyen de deux techniques différentes. (1) Les faits sont trouvés identiques dans les deux espèces et avec chacune des deux méthodes. (2) Les relations entre le thalamus et le cortex cérebral sont présentes à la naissance (lapin) ou peu après elle (rat). Les phénomènes d'augmentation et de recrutement n'apparaissent que 4–7 jours plus tard. (3) Les relations entre les nerfs périphériques et le thalamus se développent de telle façon que le complexe ventro basal est activéle premier, tandis que les noyaux ‘de la coque’ (latéral, réticulaire, PO) le sont 3–4 jours plus tard. (4) Des enregistrements simultanés du thalamus et du cortex cérebral montrent que les potentiels évoqués par la stimulation d'un nerf périphérique sont suivis par des postdécharges particulières au nouvau-né. Ces post-décharges décroissent en intensité à mesure que les noyaux thalamiques sont plus en plus aisément activés à partir de la périphérie. (5) Le fait que la stimulation électrique du complex ventro basal provoque sur le cortex un potentiel du type augmentant à un âge où les stimulations de nerfs périphériques ne provoquent que des potentiels de polarité négative à la surface du cortex laisse un problème ouvert. Ce problème est discuté à la lumières des connaissances actuelles sur le développement du thalamus et du cortex cérébral." @default.
