- W2093548989 abstract "Abstract THE favorable growth responses obtained with chicks fed condensed fish solubles have been reported by Berry et al. (1945), Cravens et al. (1945), Lassen and Bacon (1946), Grau (1946), Mishler et al. (1948). Since the discovery of vitamin B12 and antibiotics, the continued favorable growth responses obtained with fish solubles were attributed to the presence of an unidentified growth factor other than vitamin B12 (King and Hauge, 1949; Sunde et al., 1952; Menge et al., 1953; Camp et al., 1955; Arscott, 1956; Summers et al., 1959; Wisman, 1960). On the other hand, Combs and Nicholson (1960) reported that addition of condensed fish solubles did not improve the performance of broilers fed simplified corn-soya diets. Barnett and Bird (1956) reported a loss of fish factor activity in chick nutrition studies in 1953 and its return in 1954. This loss was believed to be due to changes in the microbial population of …" @default.
