Two surface bands merge from both the ensuremath{Gamma}ifmmodebarelsetextasciimacronfi{} Xifmmodebarelsetextasciimacronfi{} and the ensuremath{Gamma}ifmmodebarelsetextasciimacronfi{} Mifmmodebarelsetextasciimacronfi{} high-symmetry axes and become the surface resonance at -60 meV. The topology of these surface bands suggests the possible influence of the spin-orbit interaction. The bulk state has not been predicted by nonrelativistic bulk-band calculations for Nb(001). We have carried out a relativistic calculation with the augmented-plane-wave method to look for the filled hybridized bulk band splitting from ${mathrm{ensuremath{Gamma}}}_{25ensuremath{'}}$. The value of the bulk-state wave vector is determined to be 0.3ensuremath{Gamma}H. A pseudogap appears with a width around 0.10 eV, and the observed surface resonance is accommodated inside this gap." @default.
