- W2093846890 abstract "The Miocene Kasaba Basin in southwestern Turkey is a peripheral foreland basin that resulted from the thrusting and emplacement of the Lycian Nappes ophiolite unit onto a previously stable carbonate platform. The resulting basin-fill is the product of the complex interaction of tectonic and sedimentary processes and records the timing and magnitude of tectonic events in the thrust belt. Initial emplacement of the nappes in the late Aquitanian resulted in the foundering and irregular subsidence of the carbonate platform. By Burdigalian times continued loading of the carbonate platform resulted in the development of a sedimentary basin ca. 170 km across. Fan-deltas shed off the leading edge of the nappe pile passed basin wards into a series of small submarine fans. At the same time a peripheral bulge developed in the central part of the carbonate platform, along the margin of the basin opposite the nappe pile. A thick wedge of sediments derived from the carbonate platform was shed northwestwards into the basin. Varying sedimentation rates and migrating facies belts in the overlying Middle and Upper Miocene basin-fill sequence document both the progressive emplacement of the Lycian Nappes approximately 100 km from the northwest over the basin margin, and overstep of the peripheral bulge." @default.
