- W2094004734 abstract "In skeletal muscle that is structurally normal, 1H NMR T2 is heavily dependent on and reflective of water mobility in the tissue. Water mobility, measured by its inverse, water correlation time, increases in a variety of circumstances: inflammation, necrosis, dystrophic cell lesions, denervation, and tumor, and also, albeit transiently, after exercise of moderate to high intensity. An alteration in skeletal muscle water T2 is therefore a non-specific event. It is, however, a sensitive indicator of the intensity of the underlying pathophysiological changes and even more importantly it is a parameter that responds rapidly to variations in intensity of the causative mechanisms. These characteristics make T2 a valuable tool for the evaluation of what we call “disease activity”. The use of T2 as an outcome measure in the natural history of muscular dystrophy and in evaluating response to treatment has been extensively demonstrated in animal models [ 1 Walter G. Cordier L.
