- W2094053397 abstract "The electroxidation of As ad-atoms on Pt and Au electrodes was investigated using cyclic voltammetry and the EQCM technique. Arsenic ad-atoms are oxidized to an arsenic compound with +3 oxidation state at 0.8 V, where the mass change corresponds to 1.5 oxygen atoms per arsenic atom, e.g. As2nO3n (n ≥ 1) is regarded as the oxygen-containing compound. From the results of the oxidation number and M/n, it is presumed that arsenic atoms have -As(ad)OAs(ad)- bonds at these potentials. The oxygen-adsorbing arsenic atoms are still more oxidized to arsenic oxides with +5 oxidation state at potentials higher than 0.8 V, which are easily hydrolyzed, and removed from the electrode surface, probably as AsO43− ions. Two anodic peaks for arsenic oxidation are found at 0.4 and 1.05 V at a gold electrode modified with arsenic ad-atoms. Arsenic atoms exist stably on an Au electrode at potentials between 0.05 V and 0.6 V. The interfacial mass increases strikingly at potentials between 0.425 V and 0.6 V; i.e., arsenic atoms adsorb oxygen species. The oxygen-adsorbing arsenic atoms are still more oxidized and removed from the electrode surface at potentials between 0.8 V and 1.3 V." @default.
