These findings are all the more disturbing if one considers the following: First, the benefit (absolute risk reduction) of thrombolytic therapy is itself small, in absolute numbers ranging from 3% to 6%. Therefore, even a small, in absolute terms, increase in risk can rapidly undermine benefit because that benefit is also small.
