- W2094328361 abstract "WITHOUT SYMPATHY NO HEALING, so Ferenczi's key thesis. Freud accused Ferenczi of THERAPEUTIC ENTHUSIASM, Ferenczi Freud of lacking interest in the THERAPEUTIC DIMENSION OF PSYCHOANALYSIS. Every entry in Ferenczi's CLINICAL DIARY attempts to come to terms with his teacher, friend and analyst, Freud. For his patients Ferenczi wanted to discover something, which he had wished that Freud might have discovered for him. For Ferenczi healing comprised the elimination of repression, a more highly developed SENSE OF REALITY, an anxiety-free view of UNFULFILLED LONGING and the discovery of the TRUTH OF ONE’S UNIQUE LIFE HISTORY, whose maieutic companion is the doctor. - The worst early trauma is for Ferenczi to simultaneously experience FATHER'S THREATENING und MOTHER'S ABANDONMENT. For a child, that means that it has no chance to have a good cry over its anguish or to complain. The feelings of injustice and hopelessness are so absolute that the ego retreats from reality and takes recourse to a frightfilled splitting in the absence of the ego. For Ferenczi “overflowing healing sympathy” is the most original POSTULATE OF THERAPEUTIC RATIONALITY. The influx of PURE SYMPATHY, “a love cleansed of every ambivalence” enwraps the soul fragmented by trauma in a PROTECTIVE MANTEL, so that the fragments, indeed the whole ego, again attain to UNIFICATION WITH ITSELF. The emotional closeness of the therapist makes possible the conversion of emotional upheavals into memory images and body sensations. - Genuine human COMPASSION at times of real schock is for Ferenczi the BEGINNING OF HEALING ITSELF. For Ferenczi true therapy involves the bodily and psychic “reviving of the dead soul fragments”. He is of the same mind as Fichte and Hegel: The sense of personality (the feeling for one's own importance, form, esteem) is “the product of recognition”! The more the early approval and recognition are undermined, the greater is the demand on the therapist to enclose the ego in the mantel of affectionate caring. FAILURE OF ORIGINAL AFFECTION generates a basic mistrust and makes it virtually impossible to persue later relationships in eros, philia, agape. - Ferenczi's KEY DIAGNOSTIC PSYCHOSOMATIC THESIS: When the psyche, the soul-ego, is “catastrophied”, the organism, the body-ego, begins to think! The THERAPEUTIC COUNTERPART to this is: “Only sympathy cures (healing)”! Ferenczi declaims the crowning moment of therapy with moral-religious approval: “Mutual forgiveness!! - Final success.” The resume of the entire clinical diary is: Without sympathy no healing - at most insight into the genesis of suffering." @default.
