- W2094409511 abstract "The parallel wire method for determination of thermal diffusivity of a substance has been modified to determine the thermal conductivity of granular substances and liquids. An auxiliary probe is mounted parallel to the principal probe, which modifies the thermo-EMF generated due to the main probe. This modification makes it useful for accurate and quick determination of thermal conductivity. When used with the pulse technique it is capable of determining thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity simultaneously. By altering the position of the auxiliary probe, the sensitivity of the technique can be controlled in an ingenious way. The thermal conductivity of glycerine, aluminium powder and aluminium oxide at varying temperatures has been determined by the constant power method and the pulse technique. Values so obtained are compared with those predicted by Hadley's model modified for varying temperatures. Good agreement is obtained between the experimental and theoretical values. A design of the probe for in situ measurement of these properties is also given." @default.
