- W2094588858 abstract "In order to explore dietary intakes and selected socio-demographic, economic and health related characteristics associated with self-reported perception of food sufficiency status (FSS), data from the USDA Continuing Survey of Food Intakes by Individuals (CSFII), One-Day Data, Low-Income for 1985 and 1986 were analyzed. These surveys consist of a partial probability sample of over 3,000 U.S. households containing at least one female member between 19 and 50 years old. The data indicated that lower levels of intake were associated with reported food insufficiency for women. This relationship did not appear to be as strong for children. Also the perception of food sufficiency status was negatively correlated to level of household income as a percent of poverty. It appears that individuals have, on average, the ability to reliably estimate their own FSS. It is unclear, however, if a proxy would be as reliable a source of information for the children's intake. Les données d’une journée de l’enquête effectuée auprès des individus à faibles revenu en 1985 et 1986 dans le cadre du USDA Continuing Survey of Food Intakes by Individuals (CSFII), furent analysée en vue d’étudier l’apport alimentaire, l’état de santé, et les caractéristiques socio-démographiques et économiques associées au niveau d’accessibilité aux aliments (FSS) rapporté par les participants. Ces enquêtes consistent en un échantillon partiel probabiliste d’au delà de 3 000 foyers comprenant au moins une femme entre 19 et 50 ans. Les résultats ont indiqué qu’un plus faible apport alimentaire noté chez les femmes était associé à un insuffisance alimentaire. Cette corrélation n’a pas semblée être aussi forte chez les enfants. De plus la perception du niveau d’accessibilité aux aliments était inversement proportionnelle au revenu exprimé en pourcentage de pauvreté. Il semblerait qu’en général, les individus peuvent évaluer avec précision leur propre FSS. Toutefois, qu’une tierce personne puisse rapporter justement l’apport alimentaire des enfants demeure incertain. Se analizó información obtenida de la Encuesta Continua del Consumo de Alimentos de los Individuos, realizada por el Departamento de Agricultura de los Estados Unidos (USDA Continuing Survey of Food intakes by Individuals. CSFII) con el propósito de examinar posibles relaciones y asociaciones entre la percepción del estado de suficiencia alimentaria (FSS), y consumo de alimentos con algunas características sociodemograficas, economicas y de salud. Se analizaron datos de un dia de consumo por la población de bajos ingresos para 1985 y 1986. Estas encuestas incluyen por lo menos un miembro del sexo femenino entre 19 y 50 años de edad. Los resultados indicaron que los niveles mas bajos de consumo de alimentos se asociaron con insuficiencia alimentaria reportada por las mujeres. Esta relación se observo menos fuerte para Iso niños estudiados. La percepción de un estado de suficiencia alimentaria se correlacionó en forma negativa con el nivel de ingresos de los hogares como porcentaje del nivel de pobreza. Pareceria ser que los individuos tuvieron, en promedio, la habilidad de estimar en forma valida o confiable, su propio estado de suficiencia alimentaria.
