- W2094702419 abstract "Abstract Planners in developing countries often cite the lack of data as one of the major constraints thwarting their attempts to implement development programmes. This may be a justifiable complaint only as far as the implementation of large-scale projects is concerned. In this paper, it is argued that the success and relevance of micro projects such as urban housing targeted to a particular group of workers can be improved immensely with the incorporation of the perceptions of the target group. Thurstone's law of comparative judgement case V is applied in this paper to the stated preferences for housing of over 400 respondents in Kisumu town, Kenya, with a view to illustrating the gap that exists between revealed and stated preferences for residential location in general. Then Generalised Linear Interactive Modelling is used to estimate the relative importance of different factors in determining peoples' preference for housing. This paper concludes that the so-called revealed housing preference is totally irrelevant in the prediction of where people would like to live. Stated-preference analysis, on the other hand, is demonstrated to be of tremendous planning utility." @default.
