- W2095431314 abstract "ABSTRACT The main purpose of this study is to examine the causal relationships of group polarization effect. Group polarization implies that group opinions after discussion is tend to riskier or more cautious than before discussion. According to the previous literature, social comparison and persuasive arguments are the two most popular theories in explaining this effect. Since Myer and Lamm [16] and Isenberg [12] proposed the conceptual causal models to explain this effect, however, no other study has been found to work on this specific topic. In this study, we tried to conduct a statistical analysis to examine the causal relationships under a small group decision situation. The statistical method used in this study is linear structural equation model for latent variables, which is generally called LISREL. The result revealed that persuasive arguments generated a larger direct effect than social comparison to group polarization. The standardized effects are 0.91 and 0.37, respectively. Both of them are statistically significant. Additionally, the indirect effect of social comparison is also statistically significant, the effect size is 0.24. It indicates that the interaction effect of two theories exists. The implications of group polarization effects mentioned above have been discussed in the study." @default.
