- W2095791162 abstract "At various times four principal mechanisms have been suggested to explain surface currents in type II superconductors in fields between Hc1 and Hc2. These are: Meissner currents, the surface sheath, the surface barrier and flux pinning. Any surface produced for large scale practical application will be very much rougher than the London penetration depth, and consequently effects due to the surface sheath and the surface barrier should be small. The combination of Meissner currents and flux pinning has already been considered in connection with ac loss in the Meissner state (Melville 1971). Here the calculations are extended to fields above Hc1 and compared with experiments on niobium and niobium-titanium foils. There is good agreement over most of the field range. If, as is the case in most practical circumstances, one is interested in the change in flux density between the outside and inside of the superconductor, the greatest contribution is from the Meissner currents, with flux pinning in the region of surface roughness giving secondary effects." @default.
