- W2096635027 abstract "ABSTRACT A petrographic study was made on thin sections prepared from three well cores of the Duperow Formation of late Devonian age in western North Dakota. Except for argillaceous and carbonaceous zones, the following major rock types were recognized: Fine-grained limestone Calcarenitic limestone Calcarenite Biolithite Anhydrite and associated fine-grained rock Crystalline dolomite and strongly dolomitized limestone Recrystallization and dolomitization in micrites and calcarenitic rocks and merging of pellets have been common in the Duperow and have acted to subdue or obliterate original textures. Anhydrite is present in nearly all of the carbonate beds in one or more of the following forms; void-fillings, replacement of matrix and allochems, nodules, chicken-wire, and layers. To what degree anhydrite represents replaced gypsum was not established. The biolithites consist primarily of stromatoporoids and associated corals and algae." @default.
