- W2098234418 abstract "Computer communication vendors and users are faced with growing communication systems that must handle voice, data, and soon, video on an integrated basis, eventually through ISDN. Vendors and users must somehow control the operation of this entire system to satisfy customer needs at reasonable cost, by means of sophisticated network management and control systems. Our objective is to identify degraded performance, locate the cause and reset parameters t80 restore or improve end-to-end performance. Using a model for the windowing mechanism in a multilayered and multi-domain environment, a network manager can estimate the level of performance which the network can achieve and the window size settings to be used. The approach, we present for modelling the window flow control mechanism, uses semaphore queues connected to product form type of networks. These M/M/l queuing models can be imbedded within one another to obtiiiin representation in multi-layered windows within a single domain, while the multi-domain windowing can be treated by cascading the queues representing individual domains. Then using the Common Management Information Protocol (CMIP) for the communication between managers and agents -charged with monitoring some managed objects- we can obtain performance information and by permitting managers to pass to the agents entire management scripts for their execution, we can make adjustments to the window size settings." @default.
