- W2098906935 abstract "The paramagnetic response of an S = 1 quantum mechanical Heisenberg model has been determined in which the exchange constants were obtained from the spin wave dispersion observed in iron. The suitability of such a model as a possible description of the magnetic properties of iron is discussed. It is concluded that the Heisenberg model is not able to explain consistently the experimental observations. This conclusion is not changed if the parameters of the model are taken to be freely adjustable. Therefore the notion of a localized electron Heisenberg model as a possible description for iron should be abandoned. Overall agreement with observation can only be achieved using a model that takes into explicit consideration the itinerant nature of the magnetic electrons." @default.
