- W2099331379 abstract "Introduction: Mitral valve diseases (MVD) are frequently associated with impaired lung function.’ General anaesthesia, thoracotomy, extracorporeal circulation (ECC) and the use of vasoactive drugs may further compromise gas exchange. The risk for postoperative respiratory complications is higher in mitral valve surgery as compared to myocardial revascularization.2 We hypothesized that ventilation perfusion (VA/Q) - inequality is more pronounced in patients with MVD prior to and after induction of anaesthesia and during and after surgery with the use of ECC. Methods: In patients with MVD (n = 8) or with coronary artery disease (CAD, n = 8) VA/Q - distribution was determined using the multiple inert gas elimination technique.3 ~fttfSpUlmOfMry shunt (Qs/Qr, % Of total perfusion), perfusion of areas with 0.005 < VA/Q < 0.1 [VA/QI~~~ % of total perfusion] and dead space ventilation (Vp/Vr, % of total ventilation) were calculated from the retention/ excretion data of six inert gases. VA/Q - distribution and gas exchange (PaQ2, PaCQ2 [mmHg]) were assessed the awake state (control), after induction of anaesthesia, 60 min after separation from ECC and 4 hours after operation. Multiple analysis of variance was used for statistical analysis. P < 0.05 was considered as significant. Results: MVD - group (n = 8)" @default.
