- W2099646149 abstract "Acne is a common skin disease usually beginning in adolescence. The epidemiology of acne in Taiwan has been less intensively investigated. A total of 4,067 and 3,274 children (aged 6-12 years) in Kaohsiung county and Magong township were examined by board-certified dermatologists, respectively. The point prevalence of acne did not differ between the two populations (17.6% vs. 17.3%). The female to male ratio was 2.1 in Kaohsiung and 1.5 in Magong. More inflammatory lesions (l2.6%) than comedones (5.0%) were found in Kaohsiung, whereas in Magong comedones were more commonly observed (l0.4%) than inflammatory papulopustules (6.9%). Comedones appeared in girls at as early as age 6 and in boys at age 7 in Kaohsiung, whereas in Magong comedones were first seen in both genders at age 7. In Magong, the mean of body mass index in non-acne students (18.2) is lower than that in acne subjects (19.5), without sexual difference. Overall schoolchildren with BMI＜18.5 had lower prevalence rate of acne, especially referring to the inflammatory lesions (P＜0.05), while BMI-for-age ＞95% o may be a significant risk factor for acne formation." @default.
