- W2099926031 abstract "Subphrenic abscesses are occasional complications of abdominal surgery, severe acute pancreatitis, and liver blunt trauma. When the subphrenic abscess is the only septic source, the appropriate treatment is a selective surgical or radiologic drainage. The most frequent procedure is usually percutaneous radio-guided drainage. Laparotomy or relaparotomy is necessary in case of failure of the less invasive methods, but surgery on multioperated peritoneal cavities leads to a heavy specific morbidity rate. Moreover, during the chronic stage of disease, a homolateral pleural effusion adds the risk of empyema in 18% of cases. 1. Ochsner A. De Bakey M. Subphrenic abscess.
