- W2100476787 abstract "The aim of this study is to elicit early childhood teachers' coping strategies with children who have behavior. Interview methods as one of the qualitative research data collection methods were adopted. Data was collected through administering an interview questionnaire which involves open-ended questions. Gathered data were analyzed by content and descriptive analysis. The results of the study reveal that the teachers' knowledge and their coping strategies with children who have b ehavior is inadequate. SUMMARY Purpose and significance: This study revealed some strategies early childhood teachers use when they face to behavior of the children in their classrooms. These strategies are very crucial data in terms of informing teachers due to the lack of research on masturbation in early childhood. Methods: A total of 45 early childhood teachers (10 from 5-year child classes, 35 from 6-year child classes) from 4 different schools participated in this study. The data were gathered by an interview questionnaire which involved open-ended questions (13 questions) to the volunteer teachers. The rest of the data was collected via e-mail with other teachers who had not a chance to make an interview. After the data was gathered, content and descriptive analyses were used for analyzing data. Results: At the end of the study, the problems that occur in childrens' sexual development in the classrooms, teachers' first reaction when they see the behavior of a child in the classroom, in what ways children make masturbation, the frequency of the behavior, in which conditions the behavior occurs, the opinions of teachers about the reasons of the behavior and the strategies that are used in the classrooms are identified. In addition, common techniques that are used to handle behavior also identified at the end of the study. Results showed that most of the teachers have limited knowledge to deal with behavior of their students. Discussion and Conclusions: The study showed us that most of the teachers have inadequate knowledge about dealing with behavior of children in their classrooms. In addition, some of the teachers display shy manner when they talk about behavior of the children. Furthermore, the study also reveals that some teachers apply unsuitable techniques to handle the behavior of children in their classrooms. The reason for the teachers' limited knowledge on the topic can be the result of the deficiencies in Early Childhood Department curriculum or other related departments. There is not a any must course which involves topic through education. In addition, there is not sufficient article about in early childhood in Turkey. Therefore, new regulations can be done in early childhood department curriculum and there should be more resources (e.g. articles, seminars, books and especially researches) that enable teachers deal with behavior in the classroom." @default.
