- W2101238904 abstract "Rat and chick liver mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation, hexokinase-glucose stimulation of oxidation, and the ATP-Pi exchange rate were compared. Succinate oxidation is more rapid in the chick particles, while DPN-linked oxidations are more rapid in the rat preparation. PO ratios with succinate as substrate were of the same magnitude in the two preparations, while phosphorylation with DPN-dependent substrates was more efficient in the rat. Respiratory control by phosphorylation was greater in the rat preparation than in the chick, as was the rate of ATP-Pi exchange. Sulfaquinaloxine, added to the diet of chicks, prolonged plasma prothrombin time and thus inhibited vitamin K activity. No correspondence was found between prothrombin time and PO ratios, or hexokinase-glucose respiratory stimulation. Mitochondria from vitamin K-deficient chicks did not exhibit preferential aging when compared to normal chick preparations. The site of the ATP-Pi exchange reaction in relation to the electron-transport chain is discussed." @default.
