- W2102170451 abstract "The presence of redundancy in written language has been established by a number of psychological researchers. Redundancy, when evident in terms of the presence of excess words, phrases and even sentences that are not essential to the kernel of meaning, can result in a possible textual processing inefficiency. On the basis of the occurrence of this inefficiency, one potential research area would be that of the selective controlling the presence of redundancy in text. The results of research in this area would have particularly useful effects on a visually handicapped individual since the inefficiency would have a more pronounced effect than on a normal individual. RDE (Redundancy Detection and Editing) System was developed as a prototype for a system that would possess the capability of controlling redundancy in textual material. The methodology involved in the design of the prototype encompassed results of studies from both computer science and education. The actual functioning of the prototype consists of detection, analysis, and selective elimination of redundancy in written materials. While still in the experimental and developmental stages, the performance of RDE indicates the potential applicability of the system." @default.
