- W2102938257 abstract "To assess the exogenous origin of tetrahydro-β-carbolines excreted in human urine, dietary influences on the excretion of 1-methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-β-carboline (MTBC) and 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-β-carboline (TBC) were studied together with the quantitative determination of MTBC and TBC in food and beverage. Variations among subjects in the amounts of urinary MTBC and TBC became smaller by taking the identical meal for 5 days. Urinary MTBC and TBC were drastically decreased during alimentary abstinence but increased by taking a meal. However, such changes were not observed in their precursor, tryptamine. Various foodstuffs, including soy sauce, vinegar, ketchup, cheese, milk, cocoa, and food plants and their products, contained MTBC and TBC of ng-μg/g or ng-μg/mL levels. When deuterium-labelled MTBC (10 μg/kg) was orally administered to a human subject, it was excreted in urine not only in an intact form but also as two hydroxylated metabolites. These results indicate that most fractions of tetrahydro-β-carbolines in human urine are exogenously supplied via dietary sources." @default.
