- W2102983366 abstract "The photodissociation of triiodide in polar solvents is followed directly by femtosecond spectroscopy. In both ethanol and water solutions, diiodide fragment ions are formed within 300 fsec in a partially coherent vibrational state, as is discerned from modulations in the transient transmittance measurements. Substantial solvent effects are observed, regarding different dynamical processes. The primary geminate recombination yields and vibrational relaxation times on ground state triiodide are affected strongly by solvent. TRISRS (Transient Resonance Impulsive Stimulated Raman Scattering) is used for the first time to directly follow the vibrational relaxation stage of the diioidide fragment in ethanol solution. The feasibility of the TRISRS scheme is demonstrated and the results of this experiment corroborate the transient transmission measurements. From these complimentary experiments an ultrafast vibrational relaxation time on the order of a few picoseconds is deduced for nascent diiodide ions." @default.
