- W2103721503 abstract "SummaryThe L.E. clot test and the Hyland L.E. test were both performed on the same blood samples drawn from 100 patients attending the Rheumatology Clinic. Four had positive L.E. clot tests, and one was positive with the regular Hyland L.E. test reagent. All of these patients had systemic lupus erythematosus. The more highly polymerized experimental Hyland nucleoprotein gave twelve positive results; seven in patients with systemic lupus, four with rheumatoid arthritis and one with long-standing rheumatic heart disease and a marked increase in 7S gamma globulin. It is noted that these features form part of the S.L.E. syndrome. No false positive tests occurred with any of the methods used among the many other rheumatic diseases sampled. The need is stressed for speedy evaluation of any screening test for S.L.E. which may prove to be simple and reliable, and require the minimum of time, skill and equipment. The current L.E. cell procedures are time-consuming and require experienced personnel, which over-worked, under-staffed laboratories cannot provide." @default.
