- W2104432995 abstract "The study concentrates on possibilities to reduce work stress of teachers in primary schools. The first two research questions are: (1) which emotional, social, organisational or other characteristics and processes could reduce problems related to the work load of teachers? and (2) how could prevention of work stress be realised? A review of the literature shows that much is known already about causes underlying work stress. However, almost all research is based on questionnaires or theoretical model building. The validity of these findings for organisational practice may be relatively low. A third research question is: (3) which available or potential means and procedures could be used to prevent work load and stress as effectively as possible? Exploratory research in primary schools with high degrees of teachers' illness was carried out. Team discussions about actual and potential work and organisational problems were coached and video-taped. Analysis led to the distinction of three dimensions: (a) perspective (pupil or parent, teacher, school team, school leader, school board, educational policy), (b) topic (personal characteristics, characteristics of teaching in class, organisation, leadership, management, educational environment), and (c) stage of problem handling (identification of stress sources and reactions, reducing consequences of stress, improving circumstances, prevention of stress by getting rid of causes). This structure was used for designing the development of a professional video-movie 'Lowering work stress', including manual. The fourth research question is: (4) what are the effects of using self-instruction in school teams with the aid of the video-movie 'Lowering work stress'? A try-out of the video-movie and manual was observed in a participatory study. The results were considered to be satisfying. It was concluded that more evaluation research is necessary.
