- W2104865447 abstract "To assess the regional variability of climatic effects on rice yield, five models representing the relationship between interannual fluctuations in rice yield and climatic factors (cumulative sunshine duration and mean air temperature from August to September) were constructed. The fitness of each model was examined for the past 43 years of rice yield in 11 regions located along the Sea of Japan. The data period was analyzed three ways (divided into decades, divided into 20-year periods, and the entire period as a whole) and the models were applied for each year-group. By using Akaike’s Information Criteria (AIC), model selection was made among the five models. There were frequent differences in the selection of models between northern and western Japan. Temperature effects were conspicuous in northern Japan, while sunshine effects were noticeable in western Japan. However, in western Japan, temperature effects appeared to be dominant in the recent year-groups. Selected models were also different between year-groups as well as between the three types of sampling duration in each region.
