This has led to several confusions due to the vagueness of the term in reference to different particularities in which it is used. And, in general is not justified in an appropriate manner why is using this term and in what sense it is used. Also, when the term “constraint” is analyzed from the perspective of complexity, more diffuse is its significance. The objective of the present work is to make an analysis of the theoretical problems that presents the use of constraints of development, its relation with other types of constraints and with the concept of natural selection. It is concluded that the term “developmental constraint” is unnecessary and polysemic. Also, its explanatory power is questionable and can not be tested with current scientific methods.
