- W2105488919 abstract "This chapter focuses on recent advances in NMR techniques and methodologies and examples representative of some specific issues related to the structural characterization of sol-gel materials. One method for improving NMR sensitivity (e.g., dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP)) has been introduced, and the selected examples clearly demonstrate the strength of this new technique to investigate the surface chemistry of sol–gel materials. The chapter also presents examples of the use of magic angle coil spinning (MACS) on small-sized sol–gel samples. The combined Vienna Ab Initio Simulation package (VASP)/solid-state NMR/gauge including projector augmented wave (GIPAW) approach represents a major breakthrough for the detailed characterization of not only amorphous solids, but also organic-inorganic interfaces. A number of innovative applications in the field of sol-gel materials are linked to the surface properties, and especially to the quasi-infinite possibilities to tailor these properties by functionalization." @default.
