- W2105978991 abstract "MUCH of the recent literature concerning the relative value of tallow and acidulated soapstocks in poultry diets has been reviewed by Bornstein and Lipstein (1961), Sibbald et al. (1962a, b). Sibbald et al. (1962a) reported that a sample of acidulated soapstocks, fed to growing chicks at a level of 20% of the diet, contained 3,530 Cal. metabolizable energy (M.E.) per pound. It was also observed that by combining tallow and soapstocks in equal proportions by weight the chicks were better able to utilize the energy therein. This synergistic relationship between tallow and acidulated soapstocks was also observed in the weight gain data even when corrections were made for differences in dietary energy content. Sibbald et al. (1962b) conducted an experiment in which feed grade tallow, acidulated soapstocks and three mixtures thereof were fed at levels of 2, 4 and 6% to chicks for four weeks. The fats did not differ …" @default.
