- W2106327362 abstract "Abstract The effect of a number of inorganic salts on the inhibition, by dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide, of aerobic CO 2 production in fermenting baker's yeast has been investigated. All the salts tested, when added to the medium before or at the same time as the detergent, protected the cells against the inhibitory effects of the latter. This protective effect appeared to be due primarily to the metal ion, the order of effectiveness being La +++ > bivalent ions > univalent ions. It is suggested that the protective effects observed are due to competition between metal ions and detergent cations for fixed anionic binding sites in the cell surface." @default.
