- W2107017788 abstract "Summary A huge variety of parenteral nutrition (PN) protocols are available in Paediatrics. From a survey we conducted in 37 hospitals on the preparation of paediatric PN, we review the current status of the main elements included in paediatric parenteral nutrition. The use of “all-in-one” PN is not common practice in Paediatrics. No consensus exists in the literature regarding the addition of carnitine and heparin to PN. The use of filters is recommended, particularly when inorganic phosphates are included. The use of organic phosphates is safer and decreases difficulties regarding calciumphosphate precipitation. Photo-protected bags should be used for all PN with vitamins, to prevent breakdown. Multi-layered bags prevent vitamin C oxidation. Bags and administration systems should be protected in Paediatrics to prevent peroxide formation. Olive oil-based lipids, or lipids including MCT, are more stable than LCT. No reason exists to recommend the use of vitamins and trace elements every other day." @default.
